Why does the homepage map show fewer properties than expected?

4 views 0

The homepage map can work differently depending on how it is added to the page.

If the map is added as the Hero Header Media, the map view is controlled from the homepage page options. It does not work the same as a taxonomy results page, such as a City page.

To edit the homepage map settings, go to:

Pages → Edit Homepage → WPResidence Page Options / Header Appearance

Then check the map options under:

Select The Hero Header Media Type: Maps

You can adjust:

  • Maps – Center point Latitude
  • Maps – Center point Longitude
  • Zoom Level for maps
  • Maps height when closed/open

For example, lowering the zoom level can make the homepage map show a wider area.

Why does the City page map look different from the homepage map?

City pages are taxonomy pages. For example:

/city/beverly-hills/

The map on a City page is generated from the listings found for that taxonomy page. It auto-adjusts based on the listings shown on that page and the number of map pins loaded.

The homepage Hero Header map is controlled from the homepage map settings instead.

This means:

  • Homepage map = controlled by the homepage Hero Header map options.
  • City page map = controlled by the listings found for that taxonomy page.

Does the map load more properties automatically when users zoom in?

The theme map does not work like a dynamic external map search that loads a new set of properties every time the visitor zooms or moves the map.

The number of pins shown on the map depends on the theme settings and the number of properties loaded for that page.

If only a limited number of pins are loaded, the map will show only those pins. Zooming in will not automatically request and load a new group of listings from the database.

How can I show more property pins on the map?

You can increase the number of map pins loaded per page from the theme settings.

Go to the option explained in this help article:

Select the number of properties listed on one page – Map Pins

If the current value is set to 40 pins per page, you can increase it.

Please keep in mind that loading more pins can affect performance. The server must be able to handle the number of pins you want to show, especially if the site has many listings.

Can I make the homepage map behave exactly like an old custom map search?

The homepage Hero Header map uses the WPResidence map logic and settings. It may not behave the same as a custom map search from another website, especially if that old site loads listings dynamically while users zoom or move the map.

To get closer to that behavior, use the theme map/search pages and adjust the number of map pins loaded per page.

For the homepage Hero Header map, adjust the center point, zoom level, map height, and map pin count to get the best display possible with the available theme options.
